Q: What should be my first decision about my kitchen style?
A: Do you want your kitchen to look classic or contemporary?
We have come to the conclusion that all kitchen styles fall into these two categories: classic kitchen or contemporary kitchenremodeling. Within each category are innumerable sub-categories. For instance, a classic kitchen can encompass cottage, Tuscan and Provencal styles. But they are all classic kitchen remodels.
Unless planning on a whole-house remodel, you should base your kitchen remodeling style around that of the entire house.
Q: How do I space counters, sink, fridge, and other kitchen areas?
A: Kitchen space design is based as much on common sense as it is on building, plumbing and electrical codes. For instance, the kitchen workflow triangle (which dictates that the fridge, stove, and sink be placed in a triangular fashion) should be no more than 26 feet, all legs added together. No leg should be more than 9 feet and no leg less than 4 feet for a kitchen remodel. This guideline ensures that cooks aren't running across wide expanses with boiling pots or bumping into service areas placed too closely together.
Q: Do I need to have design ideas before I start the kitchenremodelingprocess?
A: Absolutely not; but it helps if you do have kitchen remodeling ideas for your home. Your Free design consultation is meant to help generate kitchen remodeling ideas or work through the ones you already have for your home.
Q: What features should I plan to invest the most in, for my new kitchen remodel?
A: From a functional standpoint, kitchen cabinets are probably the most expensive item for the kitchen remodeling project, mainly because of its sheer volume. However, you can also invest a lot of money on your counter tops and flooring, depending on the kitchen style and materials you like.
Q: What type of return on investment can I expect from a kitchen remodeling, if I sell my home?
A: Realtor® Magazine reported that for the year 2010, the national average return on investment for kitchen remodeling is between 84.8% and 98.5% depending upon whether it is a major or minor kitchen remodeling project and whether the budget is upscale or moderate. However, in areas like Tampa and Saint Augustine, the return ranged from 119.5% to 135%. So, many people will actually make a substantial profit on the money they invest in their kitchen remodeling.
Q: Is it a good idea to install wood flooring when doing a kitchen remodel?
A: Wood flooring is not usually recommended for kitchenremodeling. However with that said, it’s still a very popular choice. If the kitchen remodel works visually, go ahead and use it with your kitchen - especially if you are opening the kitchen into an adjacent space with wood flooring. It's always very appealing to the eye to see the continuous flow of the wood from one room to the next. Generally, designers choose other materials over wood flooring because of both the “wear and tear factor” and possible exposure to water damage. Because the kitchen is a high traffic area, the finish will wear off a wood floor more quickly than in other low traffic parts of your home and will need to be refinished periodically. Also, because there is plumbing in a kitchen, wood flooring is at risk for water damage. A tile floor is more resistant to leaks and humidity.
